The Australian commercial promotes Kmart underwear by showing people having fun and living it up in their funky undies, while other “boring” people are dressed in formal black clothes.

Karl Lagerfeld (Chanel Designer), is the new model for a road safety campaign. An excellent idea to merge fashion and awareness. The ad provides a clear message on risk prevention on roads and highways.

In the print ads, the German designer wears a neon yellow safety vest. The accompanying text reads,

“It’s yellow, it’s ugly, it doesn’t go with anything, but it could save your life.”

This looks like a super-cool ride you might see at Disneyland, but it’s actually a design concept for a real for an ultra-fast public transit system. 

The Florence TAV Station in Italy will make high-speed, long distance trains travelling through the city a thing of the past. 

General Motors has sponsored an MIT Media Lab project to address “the last mile” of public transportation. The carbon-free, stackable, electric rental car will debut next week at the EICMA Motorcycle show in Milan.

Japanese kids are ready to get on board with a new concept in child-friendly public transport.

1. The Great Whipped Cream Battle - Olomouc, Czech Republic

Fluff flies during this highlight of Olomouc’s week-long city festival.

"Volunteers are divided into opposing teams and asked to arm themselves with trays of cream. There’s a countdown and then the teams rush towards each other. When the teams meet each other in the center, the cream starts to fly."

In Austin, adults and kids alike use Winnie the Pooh’s fictional friend as an excuse to party.

5. Cabbages and Condoms Restaurant - Bangkok, Thailand

The restaurant’s name raises eyebrows, but it’s all for a good cause.

"Don’t be misled by the restaurant’s odd name or put off by the array of contraceptive devices for sale. This very popular place raises funds for the Population & Community Development Association, the country’s family-planning program. The complex is a restaurant, bar, Internet cafe, massage shop, and gift shop all rolled into one. All diners get a condom with coffee, instead of an after-dinner mint."

6. Shrove Tuesday Pancake Races - London, England

Pancake races have characterised Shrove Tuesday in the UK for centuries; at this one, all you need is a team and a crazy costume, and you have a shot at stardom.

"As far as I know, the Shoreditch Shrove Tuesday pancake races are as close as London gets to the much-hyped extravaganzas of Rio or New Orleans. In addition, unlike their over-the-top cousins, you can enjoy a ringside view of the whole event and it is all over in less than half an hour. And you are unlikely to get sunstroke or a hangover."

7. Shot Cafe - Riga, Latvia

Drink a toast to modern Latvia at the lounge where a bathroom break brings joy to travellers.

"Shot Cafe has the best toilet EVER. It seems a big boast to make, but the loo here has to be seen to be believed. Mood lighting turned the bathroom from a deep blood-red to a vibrant green to a shadowy blue to a piercing white. The toilet seat was clear perspex inset with gilded barbed wire and razor blades. We fell in love with that toilet."

8. Hakone Kowakien Yunessun Wine Spa - Hakone, Japan

"I believe one would either love or hate the Yunessun Spa with intensity. Some may admire the ingenuity of the Japanese in developing such charismatic, uniquely themed spas in the arms of magnificent Hakone scenery. Others might find these creations tacky and contrived."

Order a plate of "we are bountiful" (aka crackers and spreads) at the San Francisco eatery that aims to fill your being as much as your stomach.

"This is a very, very weird place. I just can’t get beyond the names of the food. They all have fake "affirmations" so when you get something like their large salad you have to say, "I’d like the I AM ABUNDANT." It might be slow because they have to ask you between courses things like, "And what are YOU grateful for today?" You HAVE to answer, depending on the rigidity of the server, before you can get your food."

10. Cockroach Races - Brisbane, Australia

Each Australia Day, Brisbane’s Story Bridge Hotel encourages visitors to "BYO Roach" for its creepy-crawly cockroach races.

"The bagpipers led the sponsor girls onto the racing surface (a bit like a boxing bout) along with the cockroaches, where the MC read the contestants’ names to the crowd. The names were very creative and can’t be repeated here."

Yesterday evening Armani revealed one of the images from its new underwear campaign with David Beckham.

The ad was unveiled overlooking a 6,000-seater amphitheater adjacent to Macy’s in San Francisco. You know, in case that outdoor concert you’re seeing isn’t quite holding your attention. Anyhow, as you can see Beckham remains gloriously toned in campaign No. 2, and his underwear remains remarkably crisp.

Laird Borrelli’s latest book, Fashion Illustration by Fashion Designers, aims “to uncover and share the unsung and unseen art of illustration by fashion designers.” Page after page in this sprawling guide, which hit shelves in April, is filled with beautiful illustrations — some little more than simple pencil sketches, others colorful, elaborate cartoons.

Naomi Matsushima has lent her name and designs to a series of sanitary napkins from P&G’s Whisper line.

Naomi mentioned that she wanted to “design whisper” so that “women could pass their menstrual period more happily.”

P&G has announced that from the end of June a special edition of “Silky Soft Slims” will feature Matsushima’s designs, one version with stars and one with camouflage.

Under a national law that came into effect two months ago, companies and local governments must now measure the waistlines of Japanese people between the ages of 40 and 74 as part of their annual checkups. That represents more than 56 million waistlines, or about 44 percent of the entire population.

Those exceeding government limits — 33.5 inches for men and 35.4 inches for women, which are identical to thresholds established in 2005 for Japan by the International Diabetes Federation as an easy guideline for identifying health risks — and having a weight-related ailment will be given dieting guidance if after three months they do not lose weight. If necessary, those people will be steered toward further re-education after six more months.

To reach its goals of shrinking the overweight population by 10 percent over the next four years and 25 percent over the next seven years, the government will impose financial penalties on companies and local governments that fail to meet specific targets. The country’s Ministry of Health argues that the campaign will keep the spread of diseases like diabetes and strokes in check.

Breakfast has long been trumpeted as the most important meal of the day, particularly for those who want to lose weight.

Now scientists have proved that it is  -  and say the bigger the bowl, the better.

Women who eat around half of their daily calories first thing lose more weight in the long term than those who start the day with a small breakfast. And they are also less likely to pile the pounds back on.

It is thought that eating a meal packed with protein and carbohydrates helps cut cravings for sweet or starchy foods, as well as boosting the metabolism.

Those who eating big breakfasts had lost more than 21 per cent of their body weight compared with just 4.5 per cent for the other women.

Women on the ‘big breakfast’ diet reported feeling less hungry, especially before lunch, and having fewer cravings for carbohydrates.

Researcher Dr Daniela Jakubowicz has been recommending diets based around a big breakfast to patients for more than 15 years.

She said that popular diets which merely restrict carbohydrates often fail because they do not curb cravings for calorie-rich foods.

The study is far from the first to make a link between breakfasting habits and weight.

Earlier this year, a study of thousands of British men and women found that those who ate the biggest breakfast put on the least amount of weight over a five-year period  -  even though they tended to eat the most food over the course of a day.

They concluded that skipping breakfast starves the body of nutrients and prompts it to store more of lunches and dinners as fat.

It is thought that consuming up to half of a day’s calories at breakfast gives the body time to digest food more efficiently.
